The 18 teams play in a double round-robin format, with a total of 34 matchdays. Each team plays 34 matches - facing the other 17 teams twice, once at home and once away.
A win gives 3 points, a draw 1 point, and a loss 0 points.
At the end of season, the team with highest total points becomes the Bundesliga champion and lifts the shiny "salad plate" trophy.
The bottom two teams in Bundesliga (17th and 18th place) are directly relegated to the 2. Bundesliga (second division).
