Junglee Rummy Update: Deposits and Cash Games Paused
Table of contents

In August 2025, opening Junglee Rummy was a shock. No more cash games, tournaments, or even deposits. The site just said “Play Free Rummy Games.”

As India’s second-largest real-money Rummy app, is this shocking? Honestly, not really. The Online Gaming Bill 2025 was crystal clear: all real-money games, whether it’s Rummy, Poker, or Fantasy, are banned.

200 Million Dollars for Nothing

Junglee Rummy’s parent company, Junglee Games, got bought by Flutter Entertainment in July 2025 for over $200 million

Yeah, that’s a huge deal. Flutter is the world’s largest online gambling company, with brands such as PokerStars, Paddy Power, and FanDuel.

Why did they pay so much? Simple. They were betting on India’s fast-growing online gaming market. Rummy and Poker, seen as “skill games” in some states, appeared to be a safe way to make big money.

Then the new law hit, and suddenly all real-money games were gone. Money just stopped coming in.

As if that wasn’t enough, Junglee Games also got slapped with a $2.3 billion GST notice. The government said Junglee Games and PokerStars India underpaid taxes. Imagine buying a company and instantly getting handed a massive financial bomb.

Junglee is More Than Just Rummy

Even though Rummy is their flagship game, the company actually has several other titles:

Main Games:

  • Junglee Rummy: Offers various Rummy variants, from the classic 13-card version to fast-paced games.
  • Howzat: A fantasy cricket game for fans.
  • Junglee Poker: Texas Hold’em Poker, which was quite popular in India at the time.

Interestingly, in March 2024, Junglee Poker merged with PokerStars India. Everyone thought this move was to expand and grow big, but less than 18 months later, it all fell apart.

Junglee Rummy is known for its diverse Rummy tournaments, especially cash and free tournaments, but all are currently paused, and it’s uncertain if they will return in the future.

Junglee Rummy Stops Accepting Deposits

Junglee Rummy officially stopped accepting deposits. Players can no longer top up their accounts to play real-money games.

Why the ban happened:

On August 21, 2025, the Indian Parliament passed the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill 2025. This law basically sentenced all real-money gaming platforms to death.

  • Social pressure: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) called Rummy “digital gambling,” worried about addiction and financial risks.
  • State bans: Some states like Tamil Nadu and Telangana had already banned real-money Rummy, and the central law unified the regulations.
  • Enforcement actions: Investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) showed some platforms were involved in money laundering, pushing the government to take strict measures.

Flutter was obviously not happy. They said the industry was not consulted properly and warned this could drive players to offshore platforms.

But the reality is simple: real-money games are gone, and players are left with only the free mode to play.

Junglee Rummy’s official website no longer offers real-money games.

Is Rummy a Skill Game or Gambling?

From the very beginning, Junglee Rummy faced a fundamental question: is Rummy gambling or a skill game?

Back in 1968, the Supreme Court of India ruled that Rummy is a skill game, not gambling. Based on this verdict, Junglee Games has always insisted they are operating legally.

But reality is harsh. The law is one thing, public opinion and political pressure are another.

Honestly, this debate has never really stopped. Supporters say Rummy requires memory and strategic thinking, so it’s clearly a skill game. Critics argue that once money is involved, luck always plays a role, so it’s essentially gambling.

how to play Junglee Rummy

If you want to enjoy Junglee Rummy free mode, don’t miss these 5 tips:

  1. Master the Rules: Make at least two sequences, with one pure sequence like 5♠-6♠-7♠. Use Joker only in impure sequences or sets like 3♥-3♠-Joker.
  2. Use Practice Mode: Start with Points Rummy to get the rhythm, then challenge yourself with Pool Rummy.
  3. Watch Discards: Opponents may discard high-point cards like K or Q while building low-point sequences. Be careful throwing middle cards like 6 or 7.
  4. Use Joker Smartly: Prioritize using Joker for sets or impure sequences and save it for mid to late game to boost your chances.
  5. Reduce Points: If you can’t form sequences, discard high-point cards like A, K, or 10 to minimize losses.
