ODI (One Day International) matches are completed in one day. Each team has 50 overs (meaning 50 sets of six legal balls), and each team bowls a total of 300 legal balls.The team with the highest score at the end wins.
It’s a high-level competition between countries.Each game has two parts. The first team bats, and the second team bowls and fields until the batting team finishes 50 overs. Then, the teams switch.
The match lasts about 7 to 8 hours, with a 40-minute lunch break.If the match ends in a tie after 50 overs, a "Super Over" or "Super Bowl" will be used to determine the winner.
The two teams will take turns batting to score the highest possible total.
Each bowler can bowl a maximum of 10 overs, meaning a minimum of 5 bowlers must be used in an ODI match.
With the "Super Over" rule, draws are rare in ODIs, but it’s still possible in cases like weather conditions causing the match to end early.
Historical ODI draw matches:
1. December 18, 1984: West Indies vs Australia, score 222-222.
2. December 17, 1989: Pakistan vs West Indies, score 186-186.
3. March 4, 2003: South Africa vs Sri Lanka, score 268-268 (ICC ODI World Cup).
4. February 22, 2006: India vs England, score 255-255.
5. February 27, 2011: India vs England, score 338-338 (ICC ODI World Cup).
In 1971, Australia and England played a makeshift one-day match to make up for a delayed Test match caused by bad weather, which led to the birth of ODI.
ODI schedules are divided into five main types: bilateral series, the Asia Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, ICC World Cup, and other regional events.
These are usually held in February, March, August, November, and December each year. The schedule is flexible and depends on the weather in the host country.
